Manuscript · The editor for scientific papers

AI help that never edits behind your back.

Ask in plain words.See exactly what would change.Pick the right paper to cite.Write together, live.Discuss in the margin.Export to any format.

Ask Manuscript to add a section, cite a paper or tighten a paragraph. It shows you the change as a proposal, and nothing touches your document until you approve it. Citations come from Fieldnote, our reference manager, graphs come from Locus, our graphing app, and your co-authors edit with you in real time.

Accounts are approved by a lab administrator. Mention Manuscript in the note when you ask.

Edit with AI Account

Edit with AI, right in the paragraph.

Select text and choose Edit with AI, or press Shift + A. An edit box opens in your document with the current text above and the new text below. Ask for changes in plain words, select part of the new text to change only that part, add a citation from Fieldnote, or type a correction yourself. Nothing changes until you press Done.

  • Current and new text side by side
  • Change just the words you select
  • Add citations from your Fieldnote libraries
  • Done applies it as one change, and one Undo reverses it
  • For bigger requests, Ask shows a proposal you approve or deny

Co-editing

Everyone on the paper, in the same document.

Your co-authors edit at the same time as you. Each person's cursor is labelled, and changes appear as they type, so there are no more versions to merge by email.

Citations Account

Cite straight from your reference manager.

Your papers live in Fieldnote, our reference manager for papers and PDFs. Find the paper you mean, cite it where you are typing, and the reference list keeps itself up to date. Change the style once and every citation follows.

Comments

Discuss the text right next to it.

Select a few words and leave a comment in the margin. Co-authors reply in the thread and resolve it when it is done.

Guest link or Manuscript account

A guest link lets someone without an account work on one document with the full set of editing tools. An account adds everything connected: AI, Fieldnote, Locus, history, sharing and export.
